Grzegorz Grzeban (Bagdasarjan) debiutował w 1927. Opublikował około 150 studiów, z czego ponad 50 otrzymało nagrody i wyróżnienia. Był przedstawicielem tzw. „romantycznego” stylu w kompozycji studiów, w którym najważniejsze było przedstawienie paradoksalnej idei. Dwukrotny Mistrz Polski w dziale studiów (w latach 1946–1962; II i IV championat). Redaktor działu studiów w miesięczniku „Szachy” (1959–1979). Przewodniczący Komisji Kompozycji Szachowej Polskiego Związku Szachowego (1966–1976). W 1970 odznaczony został Złotą Odznaką Honorową PZSzach (nr legitymacji 4). Honorowy Członek Polskiego Związku Szachowego (1976). Współautor (wspólnie z Janem Rusinkiem) książki „Studium szachowe w Polsce 1890–1980” (1983).
